Utilities
From electricity, to natural gas, to water and sewer, to fiber capacity, Waycross and Ware Counties utility providers have invested in the needed infrastructure to accommodate almost any industry.
The 1973 Georgia Territorial Electric Services Act established a retail competition between electric suppliers in Georgia. Through this act, customers with newly connected loads of 900 kilowatts or greater a choice of electricity supplier. This act applies to Georgia Power Company and the 42 Electric Membership Cooperatives.
Newly connected loads of 900 kW or greater at initial full operation, excluding redundant equipment, may be served by any supplier:
- Outside Municipal Limits;
- In areas annexed into a municipality after March 29, 1973, if the supplier owns lines in the municipality;
- In wholly new municipalities
When one provider's service line crosses another supplier’s assigned rights, it creates “corridor right” which allows the customer to choose their electrical provider. Waycross and Ware County is currently served by two major companies: Georgia Power and Georgia EMC.
